Answer

You can attend a 3-day workshop for trainers, called the TNT (Training for New Trainers).  This is organised by MINT (the international Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers www.motivationalinterview.org), which provides an attendance certificate only on completion of a 3-day course. The programme runs at least once a year on either side of the Atlantic. I know of no other routinely organised workshops for trainers.

Completion of this course and membership if MINT carries one very valuable asset: membership of a network of colleagues who are linked on a web discussion form, and who also attend their own annual Forum.  A remarkably generous-spirited network has been formed in which colleagues and friends help each other in many ways.

The  course is very popular and fills up rapidly. You can find details on www.motivationalinterview.org. The next MINT sponsored Training of New Trainers will be in San Diego, California, US on October 4-6, 2010. In 2011 the training will be help in England (details to be announced).

The MINT organization is run by volunteers.  They usually produce an email notification system whereby they will inform you the moment an announcement is made public. Check www.motivationalinterview.org for details of this facility.

Forthcoming Workshops

Motivational Interviewing: Introduction & Update. 2 day workshop - 11th & 12th June 2012, Cardiff
Begin: 11.06.12, 09:00
End: 12.06.12, 17:00
This is a repeat one-off opportunity to learn about motivational interviewing (MI), and the latest developments, from its two co-founders, William R. Miller from Albuquerque, New Mexico & Stephen Rollnick from Cardiff, Wales. Professor Miller will return to Cardiff after a successful workshop in 2011. This will be of interest to both to newcomers and those more familiar with MI. A streaming system will be used to ensure that those relatively new to MI will get good opportunity to practice basic skills. It will provide: - Clarification about the common and unique elements of MI - A focus on client change language and how it guides the practice of MI - An update on theory and research - The presentation of a new 4-process framework for MI that allows for easier integration in diverse settings - Opportunity to practice core skills for evoking motivation to change For further details and application form, visit: www.misr2012.co.uk
