Hi Stephen
I'm writing to you from Melbourne Australia to say a big thank you for all the work that you and your colleagues have contributed in the development of Motivational Interviewing.  I have recently begun learning the techniques for the purposes of introducing them to the community pharmacy setting to assist pharmacists with behaviour change in primary health care.
I was wondering if you could also advise me of any recent developments of MI in the pharmacy context.
Your book Motivational Interviewing in Healthcare has been really really useful :))

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

G'day to you down under!  Let me hear the sound of a kookaburra and I am in heaven.....

Its a great question. Anyone else with ideas of how MI might be of help with decisions about medication and other things?

I am crazy busy but I'll get back to you soon. OK?   Meanwhile, what exactly would you like to know?  Where are the gaps for you? What are your questions about this field?

Steve

Thanks for your response :) Yes the sound of kookaburras is always great :)) lol

Specifically I'd love some guidance around using MI in very short consultations - say less than 4 minutes!  For example when somoeone comes into the pharmacy requesting info and support around smoking cessation and / or Nicotine Replacement Therapy does anyone have any suggestions that may work well given the short time frame.  I have seen a few video posts on youtube detailing 'MI in brief intervention' that have been useful....but any other tips would be great!

Thanks in advance!
Vanessa

Motivational Interviewing: Introduction & Update. 2 day workshop - 11th & 12th June 2012, Cardiff
Begin: 11.06.12, 09:00
End: 12.06.12, 17:00
This is a repeat one-off opportunity to learn about motivational interviewing (MI), and the latest developments, from its two co-founders, William R. Miller from Albuquerque, New Mexico & Stephen Rollnick from Cardiff, Wales. Professor Miller will return to Cardiff after a successful workshop in 2011. This will be of interest to both to newcomers and those more familiar with MI. A streaming system will be used to ensure that those relatively new to MI will get good opportunity to practice basic skills. It will provide: - Clarification about the common and unique elements of MI - A focus on client change language and how it guides the practice of MI - An update on theory and research - The presentation of a new 4-process framework for MI that allows for easier integration in diverse settings - Opportunity to practice core skills for evoking motivation to change For further details and application form, visit: www.misr2012.co.uk
